Living AND Dining in the Boston Seaport District 2024

Over the past few years, you have read so much about the changing of the Boston Seaport from parking lots and storage facilities to gleaming towers of glass and steel, completely transforming this area.  Once a deserted parcel used by industry to stage the Downtown, Beacon Hill, South End and Back Bay areas, this neighborhood has very quickly become one of the places to live in Boston. If you are thinking or planning on moving to Boston in 2020 – put the Seaport area on your list of places to look!   Bloggers have touted the spectacular new high rise condominium projects like 22 Liberty, Echelon, Pier 4 Residences, The St Regis and 50 Liberty and raved about the views and the amenities that not only include 24 hour concierge, doormen, gyms, basketball courts, pet spas and the like, but the one critical aspect of living in the Seaport, we haven’t discussed at length is …..

Dining !

For years, the Back Bay and South End have dominated the culinary scene.  Venerable eating establishments like Abe & Louie’s, The Capital Grille , Grill 23, Atlantic Fish, Deauxe , Mistral and many others have been the dining destinations in the Back Bay, while the South End tended to have been a bit edgier with standouts, like Stella, Aquitane, B & G Oysters and so many more have been feeding Bostonians (very well, i might add) for years and even decades!.  As the Seaport area residences exploded, so has the dining scene.  From lobsters on picnic tables at Yankee Lobster to the elegant Morton’s Steakhouse, the Seaport dining options excelled , but were limited.    Eventually  Legal Harborside, Del Frisco’s, Temazcal and at the time, Jerry Remy’s – took over the location formerly held by the world famous Jimmy’s Harborside.  This was a classic example of ” build it and they will come”.  Soon the area was teeming with limousines, taxis and uber drivers from the suburbs, the local hotels and the other Boston neighborhoods.  The success of these restaurants brought on a myriad of fine dining options – like Ocean Prime, Mastro’s Ocean Club and Tuscan Kitchen Seaport.  Bon Appetit!
