Advice for parents living in luxury condos

When most of us think about what parenting should be, we usually get the images of life in the suburbs, family houses with big yards, and of course, minivans. However, this kind of lifestyle does not fit all the families anymore. In fact, in recent years, research conducted on families living in Boston has shown that most families there would rather live in condos than in family houses. And, the reason was not the price, as you might assume. The price of a family house is quite similar (if not higher) than the price of an average Boston luxury condo for sale, for example.

Families choose these kinds of condos because they are practical and nearby all the amenities one modern family may need. So, if you are thinking about taking this step, here is some advice for parents living in luxury condos that may help you make your decision.

Keep It Simple and Minimalistic

Maybe one of the biggest problems of living in a luxury condo is the lack of space. This will be a problem no matter how big your condo is and how many children you have. This problem is easily solved with houses – you can just put the currently unused items in your basement, garage, attic, etc.

But, what will you do with all that stuff when living in a condo? Do not worry; you do not have to throw them away. In order to maximize space in your home, you can consider renting a storage unit nearby. Or, you can invest in some great storage solutions for the inside of your home. Or, you can just keep it simple. Try to live minimalistic! That way, your home will not be crowded, your family will learn to rely less on material things, and most importantly, you will all have more time, energy, and money to invest in your experiences.

Teach Your Children About Noise Pollution

As previously mentioned, most Boston luxury condo buyers right now are currently families with children. However, that does not mean that people living in condos above or under you are also families with children. They may be older adults, business people, or simply people who enjoy the peace and quiet. Thus, try to explain the apartment complex rules regarding the noise to your children.

Just as your baby or toddler could not fall asleep with a couple of teenagers upstairs that are blasting their stereo, it is crucial for your children, no matter how old they are, to know that Mr. Davidson – your neighbor from downstairs, goes to bed really early and cannot fall asleep because of that toy drum.

Parents Living in Luxury Condos Still Need to Childproof

All parents want one thing for their children when they buy a condo- to make them feel at home and make them feel safe. One of the best things about living in luxury condos, or condos in general, is that there are little to no stairs. That means – no baby gates! And, since the square footage is smaller than the one you would probably have when living in a home, you will automatically have fewer things to childproof. Most importantly, your luxury condo concierge will always be there to help you out as an extra set of hands and eyes.

However, even though childproofing is easier in condos, you still need to worry about some things – access to windows, doors, and balconies. This can be a nightmare for parents with children who like to climb or wander off. Luckily, there is an easy fix for this problem. You can install the high-window locks on all the windows and doors on your home. You can also maintain a good relationship with your neighbors and concierge, who can always check up on your children when you cannot.

Birthday Parties and Celebrations Are a Snap!

When buying a condo, all parents worry about whether it will make them feel at home or if they will be able to live a ‘normal’ family lifestyle. They wonder whether they will be able to throw their child a birthday party there. Well, of course, they will! Believe it or not but organizing a birthday party or any other kind of celebration is a lot easier in a condo than in a house. This is because most luxury condos usually have ‘Party Rooms.’ Either they are free to use and only require a reservation, or there is a nominal price to pay.

The best part is – almost all luxury homes, besides the Party Rooms, usually have pools, yards, BBQs, and places for picnics. So, organizing a party can be a piece of cake and a fantastic experience for your child, and the best part is it is happening just outside your condo door.

Sharing is Caring

When living in a Boston luxury condo, you must teach your children (and yourself) about the rules of sharing. This is especially important if your child grew up alone, without brothers or sisters, or if your child has not been surrounded by other children that much. If you do not, well, you will have a lot of problems with your neighbors, and ultimately, with your children as well.

Keep in mind what we previously said – almost all luxury condos have shared areas. Those can be yards with tennis courts, pools, play areas with trampolines, picnic yards, entryways, etc. It would be best to teach your children that these areas are meant for sharing. Sharing is a big part of living in a condo, whether it is a luxury condo or a cheaper, smaller one. One of the best pieces of advice for parents living in luxury condos is to teach your children that they must share everything, the toys and the areas, with other children there. This will help them grow into great people, and it will help you maintain a great relationship with your neighbors
